COFREPECHE SUPPORTS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF AQUACULTURE IN THE INDIAN OCEAN

As part of the technical assistance to IORA for the implementation and coordination of IORA Blue Economy Work Plan on fisheries, aquaculture and marine environment aspects, COFREPECHE provides a continual support through several activities funded by the AFD since May 2020.

Following the conclusion of a webinar held in August 2021 on promotion of small-scale rural aquaculture, stakeholders from IORA Member States expressed their interests on sea-cucumber and seaweed production. Thereby, last April, COFREPECHE aquaculture expert undertook a field mission in Zanzibar to organize a seaweed production trial in order to share best practice on seaweed tubular net and to produce a short video documentary showing all production steps with technical explanations on tubular net. As part of the mission, the expert prepared a protocol explaining each technical aspects to prepare the tubular net and place it in open sea. The results and outcomes of this activity will be presented during an on-site training workshop involving participants from all IORA Member states which will take place prior to the end of 2022 in Zanzibar.
