AWARDING OF THE CONTRACT « STUDY ON THE PROSPECTS FOR THE CREATION OF A PORT COMPLEX FOR INDUSTRIAL AND/OR SEMI-INDUSTRIAL FISHING IN THE UNION OF COMOROS”

COFREPECHE has been awarded the contract “Study on the prospects for the creation of a port complex for industrial and / or semi-industrial fishing in the Union of the Comoros” financed by the World Bank. This consultation, implemented with CATRAM, started in march and will last 5 months.

As part of its development policy, the Comorian authorities have the general objective of promoting and optimizing the economic benefits directly or indirectly derived from the exploitation of resources in the Comorian economic zone. The lack of suitable port infrastructure is one of the obstacles to the development of the national economy. In this context, this global study aims to identify and retain sites potentially favorable for the construction of port infrastructures, capable of providing support to all main and related activities of a fishing port and to other activities of maritime development, inter-island transport, yachting and tourism.

More specifically, this project aims at:

• Studying the prospects and opportunities of the creation of an industrial and / or semi-industrial fishing port on the economic and political level by integrating the other related activities (tourism, transport, etc.) in the Union of the Comoros ;
• Studying and identifying the conditions necessary to create a supporting environment for the establishment of a port for industrial and / or semi-industrial fishing ;
• Studying and taking into account aspects related to the future development of the potentialities of the blue economy at regional and national level.
