Improving Data Collection in the Fisheries Sector in Somalia

COFREPECHE is pleased to have won a new contract in Somalia for a duration of 6 months. This contract, signed at the beginning of the year with the World Bank, aims to provide services for the development of a fisheries management plan aimed at improving data collection on fisheries and developing a Fisheries Information Management System (FIMS) in the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The project in Somalia envisages the development of a national fisheries data collection system and the establishment of a fully functional FIMS. This system will integrate comprehensive fisheries data, including catches, fishermen/vessel registration, licenses, and socio-economic data. It will harness available technologies in Somalia, such as the use of mobile applications for near real-time data collection, validation, and automated data transfer to a central database.

This contract attests to COFREPECHE’s expertise in designing and implementing solutions to address the complex challenges of marine resource management. It also demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable and inclusive development of the fishing sectors in developing countries such as Somalia.
