TRAINING FOR THE BLUEFISH FISHING CAMPAIGN IN THE MEDITERRANEAN 2021/2022

The COFREPECHE ROP-BFT team closed the training sessions in Algiers and Naples allowing more than 35 new observers to come and consolidate our group of more than 100 observers operating each year in the regional observer program for the bluefin tuna of ICCAT. These observer groups, thus allow the coverage of 100% of tuna purse seiners benefiting from a quota and an ICCAT license, as well as fattening farms involved in the exploitation of bluefin tuna during the 2021/2022 season.

COFREPECHE is responsible for the training and deployment of all trained observers. This year, COFREPECHE therefore took charge of the deployment and coordination of observers on 105 tuna purse seiners active during this fishing campaign. COFREPECHE thus provided coverage for the vessels of 5 different flags:

• Italian (21 vessels)
• Algerian (21 vessels)
• Tunisian (47 vessels)
• Libyan (12 vessels)
• Moroccan (4 vessels)

The 2021/2022 fishing campaign is scheduled to start on May 26, vessels will have until July 01 to fish their quota.
